Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 Swimming Goggle Review
Review by Phil Gerrard, Updated 1st of May 2021
Looking for a new pair of googles? Speedo is one of the biggest swimming brands out there - and a name that most people think of when considering purchasing goggles. The most popular Speedo swim goggles are the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 swimming goggle. Go to just about any lap pool, and you are likely to see several pairs of these - in one of the many various colors available. You will most likely still come across several of the original Vanquishers as well - given their popularity.
In this article, we review the ever popular Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 swim goggle, and help you determine if this goggle will meet your needs.
Let’s start with the basics. The Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 swimming goggles are a budget swim goggle. But they do have all of the main features you would expect from a premium racing or training swim goggle. There is an anti-fog coating, silicone seal, adjustable strap with rear toggle, and interchangeable nose pieces. They also come in a massive range of tints and colors, or even with a mirror finish on the lens.
The Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 is perfect as a general purpose swimming goggle. It is long lasting. It has a robust and interchangeable nose bridge. The strap is excellent quality, and you can be assured it won’t degrade or break prematurely. And it does this with a classical style that is hard to dislike. Having said this, the Vanquisher could improve a couple of aspects for it to move beyond a general purpose swimming goggle. The lens is a little on the large side for a racing or training goggle. Not large in terms of width, but the depth of the lens. The second area I feel Speedo could improve is in the suppleness of the silicone seal. The Vanquisher doesn’t quite have that extra-supple silicone that some goggles achieve. For me, this resulted in the need to tighten up the goggle strap a touch more than I’d like in order to keep leak free. Finally, while the vision is crystal clear through the quality lenses, the vision is slightly blocked on the right and left hand extremities. Again – for general use, it’s a non-issue, but for a triathlon or open water swimming, there are options available that will give unobstructed vision.
I have a detailed goggles review available that suggests alternative swimming goggles that are an excellent choice for different needs (racing, training, open water swimming, etc). Here, I’ll at least mention what I see as a solid choice in budget racing/training swim goggles, and a swim goggle I would recommend over the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 if you are training or racing. The TYR Tracer-X swim goggle. This is a similar style goggle to the Vanquisher, but overcomes the Vanquisher weaknesses I mention above. They are a great swim goggle that should be far more popular.
